Wedding Videographer vs. Content Creator - What's The Difference?

When you're planning your wedding, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the options for capturing your big day. One of the biggest questions we see floating around lately is:

“Should we book a wedding videographer or a content creator?”

We get it. It’s a totally valid question, especially with TikToks, Reels, and next-day sneak peeks becoming more and more popular. And while we’re proud, passionate filmmakers (hey, it’s our jam!), we also think it’s important to break down the differences clearly and kindly - because not every couple/lover needs everything, but we do want you to make the right choice for you.

So let’s talk about it.

🎬 What is a wedding videographer?

A videographer (like us!) is someone who captures your wedding day with professional kit, experience, and a whole lotta heart. We don’t just film - we tell your story.

Think cinematic, emotional, beautifully edited films that take you right back to the moment. With pro audio, colour grading, creative composition and storytelling at the core, it’s the kind of film you’ll want to pour a glass of wine and watch every anniversary for years to come.

We’re there to document the real stuff - from belly laughs and loving glances to the teary “I do’s” and that moment when your nana absolutely owns the dance floor.

📱 What does a content creator do?

A content creator’s job is to capture fun, quick, often vertical footage of your day - mostly on phones or small cameras - and send it to you super fast (usually within 24–48 hours). Think Instagram Reels, TikToks, stories and trending audio moments. It’s raw, behind-the-scenes-style content that’s great for social sharing and keeping that just-married buzz going.

We’ve worked alongside some fab content creators before and love the energy they bring!

So… do you need both?

Here’s our honest take: they do very different things.

A videographer is your investment in the long game. Your “forever” film. A cinematic, emotional keepsake.

A content creator gives you quick, casual BTS for the short-term joy and Insta-worthy vibes.

If you can stretch your budget for both - amazing! But if you’re choosing one or the other, we’ll always say this (with love): don’t skip the videographer. It’s easy to overlook video when you’ve got a killer photographer lined up, but nothing captures movement, voice, music and energy quite like film. And let’s face it - phone footage might be fun now, but it’s unlikely to stand the test of time.

What if budget is the issue?

We totally understand that weddings cost a lot. But if you’re leaning towards a content creator just because of budget, take a step back and think long-term.

There are options.

  • Hire a newer videographer – Many talented people are just starting out and offer more affordable rates while still creating great films.

  • Reduce coverage time – Maybe you don’t need a full day. We offer packages starting at just 2 hours to capture your ceremony, vows, and key moments beautifully without breaking the bank.

  • Ask for a bespoke quote – We can work with you to tailor something that fits your needs and your wallet. Just drop us a message!

Want something fun and low-fi?

We’ve got something cool for that too - our Rebel Camcorder Add-On!

You can hire a couple of old-school camcorders from us, hand them out to your mates, and let them capture the day through their eyes. Send them back to us, and we’ll edit together a fun, chaotic, love-soaked short film for you, either as a standalone option or an add-on to your main film. It’s nostalgic, hilarious, and totally unique.

TL;DR

  • Videographer = cinematic, emotional, timeless storytelling

  • Content creator = quick, casual, social media-ready snippets

  • If you can only choose one? Go for the video that’ll last a lifetime

  • And if you’re worried about budget - let’s talk. We’re here to help you make it work 💛

We’d love to hear about your plans and see how we can help you capture your day in the way it deserves. Whether it’s a full-day cinematic film, a short highlights package, or a fun camcorder moment, we’ve got you.
